Mirror Mirror….
Upon engaging with a work by Bahram Hajou, one is immediately drawn to an ongoing emotional exchange. The layers of colour, daubed across the scene, the edges left unfinished, give the figures and their surrounds an ethereal, floating quality, as if canvas is laid on canvas. His characters are either starting a discourse, or have just finished one. They often seem fluid. Some appear boldly in the foreground; others may be effaced behind the shadow of a screen.
Facing you are those who yearn to engage with you, they are sharing their story. Perhaps they mirror your own story, ranging from quotidian life matters to deeply intimate topics; the choice of subject is yours.
The effaced figures are spectres of characters that seem to have resolved their issues; they have attained peace and are exiting the scene.
The serious facial expressions and fluid body language are almost always neutralized by the white or vibrant colours that shed hope and happiness on any subject matter.
Serious or light-hearted, make no mistake, Bahram always greets you with an eternal smile and a peaceful demeanor, for he always reconciles life's concerns through his characters and paintings.
Hajou invites you to do the same as you sit with his artwork in this exhibition
