Talib Almarri started his photography journey in 2016, capturing wildlife and natural landscapes near his home in Khobar, Saudi Arabia, as well as during his travels in Europe, the Gulf, and particularly in Kenya, Tanzania, and Botswana. In recent years, his focus has shifted to a specific location called Buhairat al-Asfar, situated in the al-Hasa governorate within the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, along the eastern coast.
Almarri has developed a deep fascination with this place, characterised by sandy hills overlooking a lake, adorned with lush vegetation. Despite the vibrant colours surrounding him, he predominantly chooses to showcase his captivating images in black and white, as he believes it effectively conveys the essence of photography. The lake itself is a national park and holds the status of a UNESCO World Heritage site. It stands out as one of the most significant shallow wetland lakes in the region, attracting numerous migratory bird species, including a larger population of the white heron compared to any other area in Saudi Arabia.
When Almarri returns to this location repeatedly, he feels captivated by the harmonious blend of water, birds, and vegetation. The only sounds he hears are the songs of birds and the gentle rustling of air through the grass and water. He ensures that nothing disrupts the tranquility of the place and his mind. Each visit strengthens his attachment to this spot, as if he truly belongs there. He discovers a passion within himself to explore and unravel more of its beauty, constantly seeking new and unconventional artistic angles and ideas to express his connection with it.
